NOTES AND COMMENTS
, [Bt Glencoe.] The Egmont Racing Club's Winter Meeting will be held to-morrow and Thursday. The racehorses Killaloo and Margarita, in charge of W. J. Porter, were shipped south last evening. They are to race at Oamaru next week. I For a horse that is well seasoned with ' racing and is also a winner over country, ' Daylight Bill, lOst. 41b., must be considered remarkably well handicapped in the Wanganui Steeplechase. The field promises to be a weak one, and as the country is not difficult Mr. D. Rutherforda horse will probably-start favourite. Jackman, who heads the list with list. 121 b., will not be as forward as the grey gelding. Dorando will be having his first • race for nearly tmo years, the 1 ole, lOst. 131b., is giving Daylight Bill 91b., but his credentials as a "'chaser are no , better than those of the Riccarton horse. Golden Glow, on the same mark as lho Pole, has wou three times in very in- , ferior company in the noitli. He is 14 years old, so can hardly be on the im- J prove. has been on the re- , tired list for eighteen months, and will I require a race or two. Bonny is ■& per- ■ feet jumper, but stops to nothing at the ; end of two miles. Sandy Paul, lOst. 51b., ' wa* very backward at Awnpuni, and Ftreworks has only a jumper's chance, lho FcUding-trained Leapuki, lOst. lib., will probably be in the. business at the right end. iSione of the light weights appears as a likely winner of a Wanganui Steeplechase. The Connolly Handicap field will see a big reduction .by acceptance day, Emperador is in the paddock, Leonta is being schooled over fences, and so is Sauci, while several of the Auckland brigade will also be missing. There is little chance of Sauci starting in either the Century or Great Northern Hurdles, as he has done practically no jumping, but R. O'Donnell intends to take him to both meetings so that he can be schooled in company. So far bis tasks have been over very small fences with P. Paterson in the saddle. Advices from the south state that Corrie will be sent north for the Great Northern Hurdles, but will miss the Wanganui Meeting. Weights for the hack events at Wanganui are due on Friday next. Local owners who intend being represented at the Oamaru Meeting next week should note that - acceptances close . on Thursday night. Lowry, president of the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club,. is leaving Auckland by the Niagara on Tuesdaj next on a trip to America. He will be accompanied by; Mrs. Lowry,'-", whose health for some time past has been very bad. New Zealand owners should note that June 1 is entry day for the Epsom and Metropolitan Handicaps, and- the Breeders' Plate and Gimcrack Stakes.' Secre- ' taiy A. E. Whyte, of the Wellington Racing Club, is empowered to receive entries up till 4 p.m. on that date. . Mr. H.
