WOUNDED N.Z. SOLDIERS FUND

♦ WEEK-END CARNIVAL. > There is every prospect of the Carnival being promoted under the auspices of the Boxing Association, Natives' Association, and R-ugby Union on Saturday and Monday next proving to be one of the most popular fixtures yet promoted on behalf of the numerous funds for which entertainments have been organised. On Saturday afternoon the Natives' Association have organised a procession in costume, leaving the Lambton Station at 2 o'clock and proceeding to the Athletic Park, where the attractions are a burlesque Rugby match, followed by a representative match between a Wellington team and a team from the Trentham camp. On Monday evening at the Town Hall a varied boxing programme will be submitted, tho competitors including members of the Expeditionary Force and of the Rugby Clubs. The following is a list of the bouts to be decided: —W. Tancred (PetoneV v. A. M'Kay (Athletic)W. Francis (Wellington) v. B. Algar (Poneke); W. Higgrns (Wellington) v. P. M'Pherson (Poneke); Brosnahan (University) v. H. Trancred (Petone); Meldrum (University) v. B. Ginders (Poneke); V. Pointon v. A. Belsham ; Private Braham v. T. Spearman; C. Watson v. Private Silvester; Corporal M'Farlane v. Private Parry; W. Mack v. E. Lopez; H. Richards v. A. Leckie; J. W. Oliver v. W. Martin. Mr. T. Sampson has been appointed referee. His Excellency tho Governor, Lord Liverpool, has extended his patronage to the Carnival, in addition to members of the Cabinet, the Mayor, Sir Josoph Ward (Leader of the Opposition), and leading citizens. It appears likolv that patrons mil be provided with an excellent afternoon's and evening's sport at popular prices for an excellent cause.
