MR. V. R. MEREDITH TO JOIN. Consequent upon tho retirement of Mi'-. H. H. Ostler from the position of Senior Crown Law Officer, and tho promotion of Mr. P. S. K. Macassey to the vacant higher position, Mr. V. It. Meredith, of Wellington, has been'appointed to the Crown Law Office. Ho will commence his duties on Monday next. _Mr. Meredith was born at Onehunga. 38 years ago. He was educated nt the local public school, and at the Auckland Grammar School, which institution lye left to join the Civil Service in tho Customs Department. He qualified as a solicitor while still in the Customs service, and finally he resigned to enter into partnership with Mr. R. B. Williams in this City.- Three years ago ho entered into partnership with Mr. R. M. Watson, who on the outbreak of war went to Samoa with the force, and is now Judge at the Islands. Mr. Meredith is ' exceedingly ; popular in many circles in Wellington. He is perhaps as well known to footballers as to any olass of sportsmen, for not only has he been a fine exponent of the game himself, but he has lately acted as selector for Wellington representative teams.
