PETONE COURT

The monthly sitting of the Petone Magistrate's Court was held yesterday before Mr. G. Cruickshank 3 S.M. ' For crossing a railway line on a motor-cycle at other than a walking pace while a train was approaching, Walter Roy. Brown was fined 10s., with costs 7s. Frederick Robert Wallace admitted assaulting his wife and causing her bodily harm. To the Magistrate lie stated that he was under the influence of drink at the time of the occurrence. A fine of £2 was inflicted, and defendant was made the subject of a prohibition order. A fine of os., with 7s. costs, was imposed in the case of Walter Walsh, who was charged with driving a vehicle without sufficient lights. Henry HurreU pleaded not .guilty to a charge of failing to keep on tne right side of the road when passing, another vehicle. Defendant. was penalised in the suin of 103., with costs 11b. Hugh Pollock did not deny using insulting language in a railway carriage, and he was fined 205., with the addition of 7s. costs. • A plea of guilty was entered by Robert Corson in respect of two charges, namely, assaulting E. J. .Wiseman arid using obscene language. On the latter charge a. fine of £2 was imposed, while on the chairge of assault Tie was convioted. and discharged. By-law cases wero dealt with as follow: —E. N. Cuttenden, for riding a bicycle on the footpath, was fined 10s., with 7s. costs; C. C. Smith and George Brocklehurst,_ for keeping unregistered <3ogs,_ were similarly fined, the alternative in these cases being fixed at tour days' imprisonment.

W. Garrett, who was charged with disobeying a maintenance order, was ordered to pay the amount of arrears, '£4 lis., by May 28, or serve fourteen days in gaol. On the application of the police, a prohibition order was issued against George Arthur Tegg. • . CIVIL ACTIONS. In the following civil cases judgment waa given for plaintiffs by default: — JT. W. M'Ewan v. J. Chaney, £2 2s. lid., costs 6s. j E. L. Grant v. W. Wilmott, £3 35., costs 55.; A. Leibezeit v. Mrs. H. Shore,'£B, costs Bs.; Sibun, Ltd.. v. J. E. Brace, 16s. 4d., costs 65.; same v. A. Chaney, £2 10s. 10d., costs 65.; A. Leibezeit v. D. H. Palmer, £2 12s. 6d., costs ss. C. G. Martin was ordered to pay W. J. Udv and others the sUm of £7 16s. Id. on May 25, in default to serve fourteen days in gaol.
