NAPIER NOTES
The following officers were elected at the annual meeting of the Napier Retailers' Association Chairman, Mr. S. M'Lennon (re-elected); vice-chair-man, Mr. J. B. Andrew; committee, Messrs. P. W. Peters, A. Kohn, A. H. Wilson, J. B. Andrew, J. R: Crerar, M. Springs, J. Alexander, E. Hyde, G. Fletcher, W. Bendall, and J. Cofctrell; also a representative to be appointed by the Chemists' Association. Mr. W. P. Mitchell was elected ! secretary and treasurer. ■_ ; "There has been 110 rise in wat;es, but a considerable increase in the cost of living," said Mr. S. E. M'Carth.y, 8.M., at the Napier Court this morning. ' "Anyone keeping a home knows that butter is now. Is. Bd., some timo ago Is.; bread has risen in price, sugar has' risen, drapery lias risen—everything has risen except wages." Mr. Currio: "Except the scale of solicitors' costs." Mr. M'Carthy: "They have no compassion for solicitors." Miss Faubert (GisborneV Messrs. Ceo. Harvey (Dannevirke), Rowley (CMsbonie), and John Duggan (Wa(pawa) have been returned as delegates to represent the Hnwke's Bay Educational Institute at the Dominion Council to be held in Wellington during June.
