N.Z. NATIONAL RESERVE

APPOINTMENT OF MAJORS. The following organisation directions, for No. 5 group Wellington Military District, supplementary to those issued on March 31 have been issued by Colonel Porter, president of the Wellington District of tho National Reserve The following appointments of officers will take effect as from date.

Infantry. — Majors Commanding Companies—lst Regiment: A Company, C. B. Morison, K.C.; B Company, A. Veitch; C Company, J. P. Firth; D Company, C. P. Knight, LL.D.. (temporary). 2nd Regiment:—A Company, A. T. Wells (temporary); B Company, H. Amos; C Company, P. Townsend; D, Company, T. M. Wilford.

Organisation of Units. — The officers commanding companies will carry out tho internal details of company organisation, viz:—Machine-gun section, non-com. appointments, including sergeant-majors, Q.M. sergeants, drummers, signallers, etc., according to establishment laid down in 1914.

Badges of Rank—Officers and non. corns., etc., mav wear badges distinctive of their rank upon their coat sleeve below the elbow. ■

The Secretary of Labour (Mr. P. R. Rowley) has visited Masterton and Carterton this week. When in Masterton he inspected the workers' homes at Solwa.y and Kuripuni. He has also made arrangements'for the early commencement of the erection of homes at Carterton.

Conferred only upon commissioned officers of the Navy and Army, the Distinguished Service Order was founded in 1&86.
