The -Masterton Operatic Socioty gave an excellent entertainment, which was greatly appreciated.'by the large and _ enthusiastic audience. A silk patriotio flag presented by Mr. J. W. Card was offered and resold many times for amounts from 10s. 6d. to £100.' It was finally purchased by Mr. J. M'Master for 60 guineas, and presented to the town of Featherston. Many of the bidders at the sale are also contributing a fixed amount per month. The amount' realised for the flag, reached the great amount of £1065, with which the proceeds of concert and other amounts are expected to reach over £1200. Mr. Ingram, of the Loan and ■Mercantile Agency Co., conducted the sale. The ladies on the east side of the harbour are anxious that to-day the public should combine personal amusement with rational helpfulness by_ patronising the Belgian Carnival, which is to bo held at Day's Bay. There are to bo many attractions for the little people. There is to be a Christmas tree, a fancy-dress procession, and bran pies, etc. There will be a marquee erected close to the wharf, where will be found stalls for flowers, tobacco, fruit, produce, and so on. In the evening there will bo a concert in the pavilion. After the concert there will be a dance, ,and a boat will leave for town at midnight. £20,000 FROM MELBOURNE.
