It is reported that two first-class ships— the Thurineen and Lotheringen—taken from the North German Lloyd Line at the outbreak, of war, have been acquired by the well-known Australian shipping firm of Burns, Philp, and Co., who will employ them in the Calcutta trade.

A net profit of £9087 was earned by the Melbourne Steamship Company during the half-year ended December 31, or '£13 in exee«s of that for the previous term, but £3778 less than for the corresponding portion of 1913. There was a balance of £95°0 brought into the accounts, so that, with She profits earned, the amount available was £18,677. The return to ordinary shareholders, which for the preceding halfyear had teen reduced 1 pst cent., liaa Wn again fixed at 8 per cent.,- which was the rate paid throughout 1913.
