MEETING OF THE-CITY'COUNCIL. At last- night's meeting of the City Council the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) presided, and there were also present: Councillors J. E. Fitzgerald, A. H. Hlndmarsh, M; F. Luckie, E. Tregear, John Fuller jun., L. M'Kenzie, W. J. Thompson, A. R. Atkinson, H. Buddie, J. Godber, G. Frost, and W. H. P. Barber. Ott the recommendation of the Finance Committee,-it was decided that access be provided to the council's Lyall Bay Reserve at a'cost of £85. It was further decided that £1800 of the Wadestown Tramway Loan Account credit balance (£1818) be placed oa fixed deposit with the Union Bank for two years, at 4 per cent. I ' ' ■ A former- decision/to charge a fee of £5 per annum for water services a Grinnel sprinkler • and drencher Bryant, May, and Bell's , factory, at Wellington South, was adhered to. It was agreed to pay Messrs. T. Ballinger and Co., contractors for the electric, lift for premises, ■ Victoria Street, the extra war risk insurance, only on such material that had necessarily, to be imported into the Dominion, ' ' _ ' The Finance Committee reported that they had been waited upon by a deputation- representing the Master Plumbers' Union who asked that the council abandon the scheme for selling and fixing water meters on the deferred payment system. After giving full consideration to the request, the committee recommended' that the council adhere t(> their previous resolution. The Teoommendation was agreed to. Alternative tenders are to be invited for the lease of premises situated at Section 140 (Featherston Street), and Section 106 (Featherston Street), Lamb, ton relaimed land, for two. three, or four-year periods, and for tne lease of premises at the corner of Victoria Street and Chews Lane for seven or ten years, and for a 5, 10, 14, or 21 years (with renewals for 21 year? in the latter case) of Section 158 (Johnston Street), late Murray, Roberts and Company's lease. It was decided that the occupier of Section 82, Lambton reclaimed land, be offered a yearly lease of the premises, at a rental of £175 per annum, such lease to date from December 1, 1914. The Wellington Baseball League's application for the use of a ground on a city reserve for the present season was granted, and a. ground at Newtown Park will be made available for them, j on -payment of the usual ground fees.
