MID-WEEK ASSOCIATION
FOURTH ROUND. The fourth round of the mid-week competitions was commenced on the Basin Reserve yesterday afternoon in good weather. , The wickets were on the heavy side, and in favour of the batsmen. In the match Oriental A—Rivals, Otiontal,. playing with eight men were all . disposed of for 160. of which Caterer made' .50, giving a cWnce when, lie had reached 42. Osborne was ' the next highest scorer, with a 1 well played 36, although he gave a hard chance at 24.. The catch that disposed of Hamilton Was a fine onc-hand«3 one by Wilson. Rivals opened with Baker and Wilson. The latter, after making 10, was taken behind' the wickets, and Baker after making five was caught by Cord* ing off his own howling. George was playing a great game, scoring off every loose ball, and bad reached 61 before giving a chance in the slips, and at the' call of time was still batting with his score at 70. M'Kenzie had made 19 when he fell to a fine catch in the deepheld by Billmat. At the oHll of time Rivals were 139 on for the loss of five wickets. In the Union—Oriental B match. Onion, batting nine tnen, put on 180 runs before tho last wicket.fell, Warno being top soorer with a well played 46. O'Brien, with 44, was next. He waß let off when he had reached 24;. Taylor played good cricket for hi 6 30. Oriental, at the call of lime, had lost eaven wickets for 112' runs, of which Mummery) with 61 not put, was top scorer.
