CROYDON SCHOOL SPORTS

The annual aihletio'.: sports of the Croydon Boys'-.'School''.'were; held at Day's Bay yesterday afternoon, and naturally were the centre of interest l to'a krge gathering of parents and 'friends. Although very-gloomy and threatening looking, the rain, which'for some years past has made a point of ' descending in the middle of events, held off, and enabled the spectators to wii> 'ness; some'.'interesting '■••races...'. ■ The. grounds were in good order, sad the young athletes,' very fresh and keenlooking, put up some excellent records, although' they: havo in, their practices sometimes eclipsed their performances •of yesterday. ■. Most amusing were-. th«' obstacle" and the;-boot: races, and the difficulty of finding v pair of shoes that tio not- fit- one toot only among" the spread-out mass of shoes has to be seen to be relised. The in every case seemed to find a pair ,to lis marvellously quickly,'.and', was streaking away to the rope long; before any of the boys left behind managed to find a pair. One or two were most and even .sat down to try' them on. Naturally tboy were not winners in the race. Several consolation races at the end afforded those boys who had not been fortunate in the other-races a c'hauce of winning something, and even ,the little girls among the spectators, as well us the fathers, were given an opportunity of achieving something. The prizes were presented to the winners by Her Excellency the Countess of Liverpool, and at tho end of the prize-giving few were to bo seen who did not possess a silver trophy of some kind or another.
