Final payments for the Feilding Stakes and first forfeits for the Oroua Stakes are.due at the same time. Di Gama was not brought back to Wellington yesterday. The son of Vasco is to remain in Melbourne indefinitely. Captain Dermofc M'Calmont, of tho 7th Hussars, who is so well known as the owner of The Totrareh, has gone to the front as A.D.O. to General Sir Horace Smith-Dorrien, and has lent Arrowe Hall, near Birkenhead, to the Government for the us© of wounded soldiers and sailors. He has also placed his French villa at Beaulieu at the disposal of the Government of France for the benefit of -wounded French troops. A large number of the North Island competitors at the C.J.C. Metropolitan Meeting were landed in Wellington by yesterday's steamer from Lyttelton. By training Hamoaze, the winner of tho Leicestershire Stakes, on October 7, the English trainer, Aleo Taylor, brought his winnings for the season up to well over 50,000 sovs. This is a remarkable record, particularly when it is lemembercd that many meetings and rich stakes have boon abandoned owing to the war. Taylor's previous principal performers had been Kennymore, Aleppo, The Ourragh, Good and Gay, Trpis Teinps, Sir Eager, Redfern, and First Spear. When the last mail left England Mr. 3. B. Joel was at the head of the list of winning owners, with a total amount of £29,486. Black Jester had won over £11,000 for him, and Princess Dorrie had earned £9900 in stakes. Weights for the Auckland Cup and the Railway Handicap are due on Friday next. Mr. C. O'Connor, the well-known starter, was in Wellington yesterday. Gold Necklace, who made such a good showing at the Masterton meeting last month, is engaged in the Maiden Race at Blenheim this afternoon.. Arlington is engaged in two events at tho Marlborough meeting to-day, the Flying Handicap and the Welter Hack Handicap. In the latter race he will be opposed' by Alecto, who has to concede the Signalman gelding lib. Rene, who will be a competitor in th& big race at the Marlborough meeting this afternoon, won the Maiden Hack Sourry on the second day of, the last Spring Meeting at Riverlands; Tho Blenheim Handicap on that occasion was won by Imarose, who also carried off the principal event on the second day of the fixture. It is interesting to note that the winners at the Marlborough meeting this time last year also included Waldemar, who is now on his way to the front. A Christchurch writer says that "Mr. Wire Tpkena," owner of Austin and Mia Cara, is the new owner of Rinaldo. When The Pole fell in the ; Port Cooper Hurdle Handicap at Riccarton on Saturday, his rider, P. Patterson, appeared to bo rather badly hurt.
