THEATRE ETIQUETTE
HONOURING THE ALLIES' NATIONAL ANTHEMS. The custom of playing the "National Anthem" prior to each performance has been rigidly adhered to right through the Buckler-Paget season at the Grand Opera House. Naturally as tho first few chords are struck everyone looks round to see if the music is merely announcing the entrance of the King's representative, probably very few being aware that it is an unwritten law of etiquette to play the national air before every performance during war time. For tho first tveek the Russian National Anthem was played as the" prelude to the first entr'acte music but few recognised it and none stood. During tho last week, however, "The Marseillaiso" was played during the first interval and the Russian National Anthem during tho. second and those present have shown their respect to the Allies by standtheir respect to tne Allies by standing up on tho three occasions. Tho public, on the whole," is not familiar with the Belgian and Japanese National Anthems.
