While schooling a hunter at Ellerslie recently R. Kelly got a bad fall, and amongst other injuries sustained a broken rib. Kelly has been very unlucky lately and several times has received bad falls on the ove of a- meeting. ... The Hastings-tnained Player, Rigo Park, Gazette, and Haumakaka are still nt Riccarton. . So far their trainer has been unable to arrange "accommodation for them on the boats coming north. On his return to Hastings Player will be spelled and Rigo Park will be schooled over fencosi The Sylvia Park gelding Royal Medal who is nominated in tlie Hack Steeplechase at Marten next month is still at Riccarton and will probably compete at Amborley before coming north. At Riccarton F. Holmes has recently taken in hand a half-brother bv Martian to Flora M'Donald. He "is a nicely-made colt and looks like developing into something more than useful.
lhe New Zealand horseman, C. Emorson, at present in Sydney, is leaving on Ins return'journey on Wednesday next and will be present at the Marton meeting next week. At > the Forbes ineoting on Thursday last Emerson had four ndos and succeeded in winning on all of them.
It is rather unusual to see two fullbrotliers winning eteeplecliase events on the same day, but there was such a. case at Caulfield recently. An hour or two after Guncap's success in the Australian Steeplechase his full-brother Boohgal won the Knoweley- Steeplechase, these being .the only cross-coun-try events on the Say's programmo. The imported mare Madaroa has practically finished her racing career, and is booked to visit tlie imported English sire, Kilbroney. This mare always showed a lot of pace, but her front joints caused a lot of anxiety.
Trainer R. Johnson has had his license renewed by the Taranaki Metropolitan body. Ho has half a dozen horses under his care. .
J. Coyle, private trainer to Mr. J Bull, is. now working his team on the Wanganui tracks.
x! A ,n a meetlll S of the committee of the Xaranaki Jockey Club held' last week, Mr. C. O'Connor was appointed starter for the Autumn Meeting. The appointment of starter for the Christmas Meeting was held ovor .until the next committee meeting. Mr. (i. Morse was reappointed handicapper. The purchase of Silver Monarch is being sought by a leading owner of jumpers. Ihe Trentham T trained animil looks bright and well, and is little the worse for his exertions at Riccarton. He is to race at Marton next; week. ,
Nominations for:;, the Ashburton County Racing Club's spring meeting on September 10 and. 11 close with-the secretary, Mr. Alfred A. Fooks at 9 o clock to-night. GREY SPRING MEETING TO BE HELD. (By Telegraph-Press Association.) ■ •' Creymbuth, August 22. The Grey Jockey. Club has decided to hold its spring meeting. The stakes will bo the same as last year, and all profits, will go to'the Patriotic Fund.
