A Some twenty persons attended a meet-, ing. .at iCarterton' on Thursday evening for the purpose.of forming a Legion of Frontiersmen in Cart&rton. The Mayor of Carterton '(Mr.;>M.: D.Horrisby) presided, and Messrs. :C. Dounard and W. J. . Sanson explained very fully the ob-. jects of the Legion. It was' then ,deoided that a'corps be formed in'Carterton, about eighteen, joining. A further meeting -will bo held, later to. elect a committee'and,officers of the sub-unit of the Wairarapa Corps, whieli oxtends from .the Manawatu River to Palliser 8ay..,• It is expected to.commence drill in a fortnjght's time. .. '.. : ' ..• Fodder in; large quantities /is being railed away from Carterton for the use of the Expeditionary Force. : ■ Following, is the AVairarapa .ladies' hockey team to play their :representative matoh with Canterbury ladies at Christchurch on Saturday, August 29 :— Misses Humphries ' : (3), r Grigg, Orr, Feast, Neilsen; Bambey, Sage, Knowles, and Ordish. Emergencies: Misses Daridson and M. Terry. Mrs. W. Tully will act as chaperon to the team', which will 'leave on Thursday next. ''' •
