Tho Officer Commanding the Coast Defences and the Wellington Harbour ) Board directs that the following regulations be adhered' to by the masters of all vessels entering or leaving the Pwt of ■ Wellington from August 5, 19H, until £ such time "as may lie notified. .PART 1.-ENTRANCE TO THE PORT. ; TLME 01? ARRIVAL OF VESSELS. 2. Shipowners and Shipping Agents are J advised to time the arrival of vessels so that they may arrive off the Examination Anchorage between, sunrise antl sunset. , By so doing they will facilitate the enj. try of their vessels into port. '' NOTIFICATION OF TIME OF AE- ■. ■ ' - RIVAL. 3. Shipowners and Shipping Agents , will notify the Chief Examining Officer, tho Harbourmaster, in advance, tho pro-i . bable time of arrival and description of , thoir vessels, iri order to facilitate recognition by the Examining Officer.' EXAMINATION STEAMER &■ SIGNALS INDICATING WHETHER. PORT IS OPEN OR CLOSED. .' - is All vessels desirous of entering the • Port with the exception of H.M. Ships, " Fleet Auxiliaries, and Array Transports,' will proceed to- the Examination- Anchorage. Here they will bo met by the Examination steamer. This steamer may •be recognised as follows:—By day: 'A blue ensign, and at tho foremast head tho special pilot flag (white and red horizontal •'• surrounded by a bluo border). , When the port is closed, three red balls vertically in addition. BY NIGHT: Three lights vertically, 6ft. apart, conspicuously, displayed at the end of a yard so as to show an unbroken light round the horizon. When the port is closed these lights will be red, when it is open they will-be white. In addi- , tion to the signals, on the .examination steamer, when the Port-is,closed, similar signals will be shown at the Signal Station Beacon Hill.' EXAMINATION ANCHORAGE. ". . 5. The Examination Anchorage is in Worser Bay, as slown on the Admiralty Cluirt. . ... ' While at this anchorage vessels ' will not communicate with the shore,' lower any boat, or change their position without the permission, of the Examining Officer. .. • ■ PERMISSION TO PROCEED INWARDS FROM THE EXAMINATION ANCHORAGE. ...-,' i G. Vessels will not proceed in harbour from the Examination Anchorage until they Wave been, boarded by the Examin- , ing Officer and given the special signal for the day. or night. This signal is to be shown until tho vessel is tied up at t the wharf or anchored in. the Port. r PERMISSION TO PROCEED . OUTWARDS FROM THE EXAMINATION. ANCHORAGE. ? 7. Vessels will not' proceed outwards from ■ the Examination Anchorage without receiving permission, to do so from the Examining Officer.' This, loweyer, . does not .apply to those vessels which have been in. Port and are proceeding to sea "' wjth. tho permission of-tho Detaining Au- [ thority (the Chief. Customs Officer). 5 PILOTAGE. 8. Pilotage between the Examination , Anchorage and the Port is compulsory, except for H.M. Ships', Fleet Auxiliaries, ) and Army Transports. ■ . . : PORT DUES. , :' 9. Permission to leave-Port must be •■ obtained from the Detaining Officer, the i .Chief Customs Officer. This permission } will take the form of. the usual plear--1 ance certificate.
