A New Zealand.trader, a storekeeper at Vila, stated.that the French officials sent a posse, of police to pull down a fence.. Scuffling followed, and a French lieutenant of police ordered a number of Britishers to be arrested. The police did. not obey the order. The British Resident was informedi and lie ordered the French tj desist their attempts to make an inroad pending an inquiry. Feeling on the matter runs high.
