«— — MEETING OF ZOOLOGICAL SOCIETY. A meeting of the council of the Wellington Zoological- Society was held in Mr. J. Castles' rooms, Newtown, on Wednesday.' The Rev. John Crewes, (who was in the chair) Toported that he and the secretary had authorised Mr. Langridge to get a pair of brush turkeys. These were to be placed in the Zoo, in accordance with the wish of the council expressed some time ago. —The action of the chairman was approved of. Tho treasurer reported that the handbook and pro-guide to the Zoo had been published at a cost of £56 6s. Already £40 had come in towards the cost of.the book from advertisements and private sales. This was apart from expected results from the large uumber of booksellers who had the handbook-on sale. There was no doubt, said the treasurer, that the. financial result, of the undertaking would be: satisfactory. ,/ ' * The chairman mentioned the fact that just now the London Zoological Society is collecting very, valuable animals, some of which are being supplied to museums in different parts of 'the world.—The meeting resolved that the Government should be asked to communicate with tho Zoological Society in' London, and endeavour to secure some of the, animals that were being collected, in order that the natural history department of the Dominion Museum might be rendered worthy of New Zealand. The opinion was eixpressed by tho chairman that now that the society had published a handbook 'to tho Zoo, the City Council should publish a,hand-, book and guide to the Botanical Gard T ens, and a catalogue .of the valuable and interesting exhibits in the -New town Museum.—The meeting approved of the suggestion.
