A party of twelve young women,who s . have been employed as barmaids. in Auckland are leaving by the steamer SJaheno for Sydney. „ They are among ■ a mimber of luiregistered Barmaids who received notification at,the end of last week that their engagements would be susponded, until opportunity be taken of further testing the legality of •■•... their employment. The. immediate causo of this action is" the recent decision of the Cour.t of Appeal that a private bar is io bari within the meaninc of the Aot,_ which provides that only • women holding a certificate of registration (as issued before the licensing legislation was amended), may be employed as barmaids. _ " Tlie executive of the Licensed Victuallers' Association'of New Zealand met yesterday afternoon for the purpose of considering the position taken up by the licensed,victuallers of Auckland in the matter of unregistered : barmaids..
