GENERAL FARMING NEWS.

A splendid specimen of a fat sheep reared in the Mnngarawa (I'ahiatna) district was on exhibition in a local butcher's sho'p"(states our I'ahiatua corlcspnndent). The carcass weighed 157J11)., and the thickness of the fat oil somo portions of tlio body-was 4} inches. That the . additions to tlio Jlangatainoka cheese factory are warranted is evidenced by "the supply of milk which is now being delivered on alternate days (writes our • Paliiatua correspondent). The two days' supply at the present time is over. 600 gallons, as compared with approximately 300 gallons during the samo period of- last season. 'The manager, Mr. J. Tait, informed tlio writer that the output of cheese for the present season will exceed 200 tons, a fair advance on last season's output. Tlio tests for the last testing period ranged from 4.1 to 5.2 per cent, of butter-fat. The grade for the last shipment of cheese railed to Wellington was 91 £ points out of a possible 100. Some time ago (says our Taihape correspondent) a local farmer purchased a line of ewes for 3s. per head. Subsequently tlio wool from these owes was sold at a good price, and the lambs realised approximately 10s. per head. It was estimated 1 that in two seasons the ewes yielded a revenue equal to about six- times the amount of the pure'haso money. On Wednesday the ewes were put in the sateyards and realised'los. Bd. per .head.

. The movement in favour of inland freezing works is 'spreading, and (says our .Taihape correspondent) proposals for the erection of works; at Aorangi, Kakariki, Mangaonoho, and Taihape are at present receiving the consideration of farmers. It is contended in somo quarters that the establishment of only one freezer is necessary, and there is a great difference <)f opinion as to tlio suitability of the rival sites. As there is an annual average of about 500.000 fat sheep in the combined districts, and as the promoters of the Tiahape scheme require only a guarantee of SO,OOO per annum, it seems apparent that, works could ho erected with advantage in more than one centre.

. Extensive additions are being made by the Auckland Farmers' Freezing Company to its works at Southdown and its building m Auckland. The expenditure upon now buildings and equipment will amount to £30,000, and this is in addition to tho esnonditu.ro of -C'lo.W
