SOME GOOD MATCHES IN THE MUD. LADIES' MATCHES POSTPONED. Unltod 5 University ... 2 Karori 6 Wellington .... a Metropolitan 3 Insurance ....... 1 The championship games were continued at Karori Park on Saturday afternoon. The grounds were sodden and muddy, while the weather conditions wore anything but satisfactory, yet, notwithstanding these drawbacks, the play, notably in two of the. senior games, was fast and interesting, UNITED —UNIVERSITY. The result of this game was awaited with interest. Opinion had it that United would be victors, and though expectations were borne out ill the game, it was hardly thought that University would collapse as they did. Perhaps last year's champions were unlucky, some sa.v they.wore, and, again, tho heavy going may have dismayed them. At nnyrate, they left the fk'fkl defeated by fivo goals to two. For a while in the first spell University held their own.- Soon, however, United had scored the first- goal, through the instrumentality of Boyd. University retaliated, and G. Strack evened matters. United were soon on the quest of goals again, so that Boyd again scored. Tho second half saw United more than ever determined ta score, and a trio of noints were placed to.their credit, Boyd, Clark, and Ijyons being tho scorers. University battled hard, but onJv scored once, G. Strack being responsible. The game ended: United, 5; University, 2. Mr. C. P. M'Kcjiisie- was tho referee.
KARORI—WELLINGTON. This game was the best of the day, and not a whit dismayed by tho boggy 'ground, the contestants battled willingly and well. As was expccted, Ka» rori were the viators. Indications, however, did not point this way in the first half of the game. Indeed, Wellington were the first to score, Holland being responsible, Wellington followed up their advantage, and it brought forth a fine defensive display by Tfarori's custodian, g. Smith. Twice did Reid go within an ace of scoring for Wellington, once, indeed, he netted the ball, but a score was disallowed by tho referee, who ruled' that the ball liSd been shot from without the circle. Before the end of the first spell, however, Karori were in the lead, Loader and Brooker scoring. Karori had the advantage in tHe,Ssceond spell, and setjured four move isoals. Loader, Brcoker, Murphy, and Davis, being responsible. Armstrong scored two points for the kisers. Mr. J. C. Cusacli was referee, METROPOLITAN—! NSU RANCE. Uninteresting' io a degree was the meeting between Metropolitan and Insurance, in whioh the former loam left the field victors by 1 three goals to one. The ground was wet and slushy, and this acted as an effective check on anything approaching brilliant play. Metropolitan had the best of the game right through, and Were the first to score, Cavill netted from a melee facing tho posts. Metropolitan again came 011 to the attack, a-nd She.erafi, being handy, scored. Anyvno might have scored Insurance's only point- during this spell, which was netted just at the close of the forty-Jive minutes. Play did not improve in the second spell till near tho close of the game, when Metropolitan rallied, Sher-ratt again scoring. The game ended: Metropolitan. 3; Insurance, i. Mr. J. Gendall referred. Junior, United* A defeated Hutt Valley by 4 goals to nil. - Insurance secured a romping victory over United B, iVSiom they defeated by 14 points to two. Kilbirnio Anglican <voa by default from Metropolitan'. Third-cisss. Wellington (lo> easily defeated lusur- : anco (0). More easily did Wesley (1!)> beat Wellington (6). Pirates defeated United by 5 goals to 4.
