CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING. RECORD OF SUCCESSFUL YEAR. (By 'ielearraph—l'reis Association.) Christchurcli, May 29. At the annual meeting of the Canterbury Jockey Club the report and bal-ance-sheet showed that tho season had been a most successful one. The chief items of revenue were: —Subscriptions, £201)4; nominations, £7478; grandstands and enclosures, £12,450; privileges, £3114; toiaiisator, i,iJD,Uy3. Ull tho expenditure side, tho largest items were: Stakes, £30,360; salaries, £1703; attendance, £2095; maintenance, £1183; Government taxes, £9.724; improvements, , £8142. Assets to tho amount of £50,625 wero shown on tho balancesheet, which included £23,000 for buildings. The chairman, in his address, said that tho amount of stakes given during tho past season by tho club amounted to £36,360, which gavo ! an averago of £454 10s. for tho eighty races that 'aro run at the club's meetings. "Wo have now decided," tho speaker continued, ''oil a fixed scalo for tho division of tho stuko money amongst tho plnced horses—i.e., 70 per cent, to tho winner, 20 per cent, to tho second horse, and 10 per cent, to tho third. Tho increase in stakes given during the season was £3560, and tho Government tax is larger by £1229, but, notwithstanding tiiis, our financial position continues to bo most satisfactory. Tho attendance at our November meeting on Cup day does 'lot, perceptibly increase, although all available accommodation in Christchurch is engaged. I think that this brings the fact before us that' wo cannot expeefc a much larger attendance of visitors at tho Cup mooting, unless the accommodatioa in the town is eon-,.

siderably increased. The attendance at our other meetings lias grown laifter, as is shown by tiho- receipts-. Tho Easter meeting showed ih-o largest increase."
