thrSe charges OF FQRQERY. Three charges of forgery were pwlerrcd'against a young man ?innwd Win. Colonial! at tile Court on Saturday. .Mr. D. G. A. Coajwr, S.Ji., was on the bench. The. charges were: (1) On Jiuy 8, forging 'the mune of C. J. Roberts to a cliequt! for £5 12s. Sd., drawn on tlio National Hank of Jfexv /Zealand, To Aro branch, and uttering the same to Folk Cohen, with intent that tho same should be acted upon as genuine. . (2) On May lij, forging. the jianio of James C! 'Robertsoji, to a cheque for £10 10s., drawn on tho National Bank of Neiv Zealand, 'IV Aro branch, and uttering the samo t<> Xorman Williamson., (3) Ch May 22, forging the namo of J. Cf. Robertson to a choquo for £12 10s., drawn on the National Dank of Now Zealand, To Aro branch, and uttering the s-aftie to Harold Hanks. Chief Detective Brot.verg stated that tlie accused had been arrested on Friday afternoon. There .was a likelihood of two other charges being preferred against him, and ho (the chief detcctivo) therefore desired a remand till May 27. The remand was granted. Accused, who was not represented fiy counsel, did not apply for bail. ALLEGED FRAUDULENT CONVERSION. John Noblett appeared on a charge of having received tho sum of 4s. l:ld. from Archibald Douglas Cook, on terms requiring him to account for tho saites to Henry Bodley, and fraudulently converting tho money to Ms own use. On tho application of his counsel, Mr. J. F. \\. Dickson, accused «-«® remanded for a week. • Bail was allowed in the sum of £5. THE UNDER-WORLD. A sentence of six month*' imprisonment was imposed oil ltftso Fraser, who was deemed to be a rogsio fuid a iag:;bond, in that she consorted' with persons of ill-repute, and had previoiisiy. been convicted of being an idly and disorderly person.
OTHER CASES. . Kate Sweeney, who atlniittctl breaking two panes of glass, valued at 2;%, the property of Kobort Gordon, was fined the amount of tho damage done, with costs 45., in default i& hows' imprisonment.
For insobriety, Esther Collier, alias Ford, was sentenced to fourteen days' imprisonment. Two first offenders vct& convicted and discharged, and another was fined 10s.
