OTHER FATAL FIRES.

Yestorclay's shocking fire was similar in some, respects to the firo which destroyed' the'W.ellesley'boardinghoiise, in Johnston Street, at 0.30 a.m. on Jarirp ary 3, 1911, when two boarders lost their lives'. A scramble for life similar to that which occurred yesterday, took place at this fire, and. the many occupants rushed wildly about with hardly any clothes on, in a bleak southerly wind. The persons, killed in this fire were Edward GYombio and Patrick Mabin. Wellington has been the seat of many fatal fires, some of the more recent one's being nivcit below :— On August 16, 1909, Thomas Hickey was burned to death at No. 79bMajoribanks Street. On April .4, 1912, William -Robt. M'Lean, a fireman, was electrocuted whilst fighting a fire which .occurred in Manners; Street.; .Towards tho end of the same year an old man was burned to dentil in a bnardinghouse in Taranaki Street. On Jiny 3, 1933,- Urban G-eorgc Frederick Hall and'his wife, Phyllis Fall, were burned to death in their house, Xn. 28 Lome Street. On February .7, 1.914, William James Martin was buriicd to death nt No. 104 Dixon Street. The most recent fatal fire was that which occurred in Messrs. Bongo and Pratt's store at Tipper Ifntt, when, as a result of an explosion during the fire, right persons lost their lives. The Victims wore: Denis Mahoney, James f.'omeskv, Georco Taylor. Wm. Flynn, John Wesley Vivian, Michael Toohov, v Viral M'Govern,' arid Ernest E. H. Polling. '
