NO POLL. AT KARORI

There arc not many contests for the position of Mayor in tho various boroughs adjacent to Wellington. So far Potoiio, Eastbourne, and Karori havo been contented with tho solo candidate to bo nominated, and there is little chance of anyone opposing Mr. F. Townsend for tho position of Mayor of Miramar, tho nominations for which ofiico close at noon to-day. There will, however, bo a contest at Onsiow. whero Messrs. Anderson and Crump will fight for tho position, and the Lower Hittt will provide an interesting triangular contest.

KARORI BOROUGH. Mr. William Thomas Hildreth was returned unopposed as Mayor of Karori yesterday. His nominators wore Messrs. Sidney B. Shortt and Thos. R. Boyes _ . Four nominations were received for tho vacancy in tho council caused by tho resignation of Mr. E. 0. Lewcr. The nornineos are:— Percy Clifton Jordon, nominated by Chas. M. Cathie, F. R. Barclay, Chas. B. Mann, and Henry Cook. Robert Thomas Pell, nominated by Chas. S. Spiers and MaUrico P. Spiers. Robert Read, nominated by H. F. Preston and C. T. Cimino. Edwin J. Standen, nominated by Henry K. Marshall and W. P. Hildreth. ' ;

OTHER CENTRES. (By Telefrapli.-Profe Association.) | Auckland, April 22. ! Tlie Mayors of Northcoto (Mr. G; Fraser), Onehunga (Mr. Rowe), and Otahtihu (Mr. A. Sturges) wero to-day re-elected unopposed. Polls aro to bo taken on Wednesday next for the election of Mayors of Mount Eden,' Mount Albert, and Takapuna. Cisborn, April 22. The present Mayor, Mr. J. R. Kirk, will not seek re-election. The candidates are Mr. W. G. Sherratt and Councillor Dr. 0. J. Collins. Waimate, April 22. Mr. John Black has again been returned as Mayor unoppose'd. This will be his third year of office. ', Tlmaru, April 22. Colonel Hayhurst (Temuka) and Mr. J. Kennedy (Geraldine) have been tcelected unopposed. For the Timaru Mayoralty, Mr. Angland is opposed by Mr. B. R. Guinness, and thero are seven nominations for three seats in the council. Mr. D. P. Loasby has been returned' Mayor of Greytown unopposed.' Messrs. H. Udy, D. P. Loasby, and S. Haigh were returned members of the Town Lands Trust unopposed. .. Mr.. F. C. Tumor has, says a Press' Association, telegram, been re-elected Mayor of Eketahuna unopposed. Dr. Pnrdy, a candidate for tlio Lower Hutt Mayoralty, will address tho electors of Lower Hutt as follows:—Blackbridge, Knox Hall, tit 8 o'clock this evening; King George Hall, Lower Hutt, on Friday, April 24, at 8 o'clock. Mr. D. M'Laren addressed a meeting of the electors last night in- the Wadestown Club Room and received a good hearing. To-night Mr. M'Laren will delivor his main speech' in tho New Century Hall, Kent Terrace, and- tomorrow evening ho speaks in the Church Schoolroom, Kelljurrie.
