Lord -Robert Cecil's motion in the House of Commons for the rejection ot tho Welsh Church Disestablishment Bill was negatived by 349 votes io 265 and tho measuro read a second time. (Rec. During the debate'on the motion to refer the Welsh Chinch Bill, Mr. Asquith (the Prime Minister) justified the disondowmentS' because theso ancient endowments had been given to the Church at a tiinp when the Church and State wero co-extensive entities. Mr. Balfour (Unionist) protested that the Bill robbed a poor Church. Mr. Bonar Law (Unionist Leader) declared that one of tho first Acts of tho Unionist Government when returned to power would be to restore tho funds of which the Welsh Church had been despoiled.
