THE OPENING OF THE SEASON. This afternoon will seo tho opening of tho games for tho senior championship in Wellington. Tho games likely to attract most attention are those between Poneko and Athletic, and Melroso v. Oriental) at Athletic Park. In each nf these teams many players - new to Wellington senior Rugby will bo Been. At Petono, tho suburban team meets St. James, who are placing a team in tho. field which may upset calculations before the season is far advanced. "Wellington meet University at Lower Hutt. The latter team, as is always ,tho caso each year, is an unknown quantity. The Wellington team is said to bo one of the strongest representing the club for a number of years.
