AUCKLAND EXHIBITION.

Though the Auckland Exhibition has been suffering almost constantly sinco it opened from very bad weather conditions, the attendances liavo been very good, and for tho first seventeen (lavs tlio number admitted • totalled fully 130,000. Visitors are already arriving for tile holiday season, and the special arrangements for tho Christmas and New' Year period arc being regarded with interest by those who intend spending their spare time among the varied amusements and entertainments. Tho Exhibition will bo open on Christmas Day, when special programmes will be given by the Royal Artillery Band. On Boxing Niglit there will be given tho first display of fireworks—a "spectacle arranged on an unusually lavish scale, and ranging in its items from set picccs (including the siege of Adrianople) to big fights and bouquets of rockets and groups of explosive shells.
Tlio Christmas season will not be marked by special events, as the management consider that the timo is one v.'lion tlio people find their greatest pleasure at sncli a placo in entertaining themselves anions; the side-shows; but on January 3 there will be a magnificent iloral carnival, for which very numerous entries are being received. On January 3 and 5, a military tourna--ment is being held in Auckland, .and Territorials all oyer the Dominion are being granted special facilities for the trip north, to tlio extent of free carriage on the railways, reduced steamer fares, and free tent accommodation in Auckland. In connection with this event the evening of January 3 is being devoted to a military sports meeting and afsault-at-arnis at the Exhibition. The Christchnrcb Liedertafel is singing at tlio TCxhillition on Jannarv 5' and 7. On January 10 there will commence a series of sports meetings. On that day. an amateur meeting will be hold, and the team of American athletes will be among the competitors. On January 12, 14, and 17 there will be a series of championship snorts for cash prizes. This meeting will be the more attractive because counled with it will lie a pipe band and Highland dancing contest—the second event of ilie kind so far held in New Zealand. -Mi'. V. S. ll'Corciuindiile. of Brisbane, has been appointed to judge the musical and dancing events. One of the chief competitions in the dancing events will be a ladies' championship, to be dccidcd upon aggregate points iu various ovente.
