OBITUARY.
DEATH OF MRS. ROBERT GILLIES The death of Mrs. Robert Gillies occurred at her residence, "Birtley," Parncll (Auckland) on Sunday. Tho deceased lady was born in London, but arrived in New Zealand when quite a girl, with her parent's, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Street, and also her grandparents, and settled in Otago. Thero she married Mr. Robert Gillies (a brother of the late Judge Gillies), who was closely connocted with tho political history of the province, and sat in Parliament as member for Bruce. Ho also took an activo part in educational matters, an interest that was shared by Mrs. Gillies, who was one of tho founders of tho first kindergarten in Duncdin. Mr. Gillies died in 1885, and for a number of years Mrs. Gillies lived in Parnell. Although an invalid for some yoars sho tool: a keen interest in many matters, of a charitablo nature, and was widely esteemed. Sho leaves two daughters and four sons: Mr. 11. C. Gillies, of South Canterbury; Mr. A. W. Gillies, of Hawera; Mr. H. T. Gillies, of Hamilton ; Dr. H. D. Gillies. of London ; Mrs. jMieliell, nf Cambridge, England; and Miss Gillies.
