WOMAN'S DEATH I IN LORNE ST. An inquest was held yesterday morning by Mr. W. G. Kidilcll, concerning tlio death of Emma Hastings, who died on Tuesday last, at No. 2a Lome Street. The husband of the deceased (Edward Robert Hastings) stated that his wife had been in a bad state of health for somo time, and had also been addicted to drink for a number of years. He returned homo from work at about G p.m. on Tuesday, and found her lying on tho floor. Ho called iu tho assistance of a neighbour. Death had already taken place. Deceased had not been the same woman since sho met with an accident some years ago. Sho was 5G years of age. Dr. Fv'ffc gave evidence as to tlio state of the Warl, and mal-nulrition induced by. drinking. Tlio causo of death was syncope, duo to chronic alcoholism. A verdict was returned in accordance with medical evidence. COLLAPSE OF A STAGING. A bricklayer named Frederick Bryant was engaged oil ,1 staging some 20 feel high, when it collapsed, and he was precipitator to the ground. Tho result was a dislocation of one of tlio niikles. The injured workman was removed to (lie Hospital. Ho is a married man, 30 years oi age, and residing at Lower Hull.
