The Hon. 1). 11. Rhodes, PostmnsterGeneral, visited Timaru on Saturday .and formally wound up and started the chimes presented by Mr. J. Craigie,'M.l\, for the new clock in the post office. Mr. lihades complimented Mr. Cranio on his public spirit in ijiviiis the bells to the town. The old tower of the Timnru Tost Office had in the course of iimo liocomo surrounded by taller buildings, and had consequently been recently considerably added to in hei"ht. The old clock was then considered "not large enough for the increased elevation, so a nsw one had been creeled in the new tower. It has four 7ft. Gin. dials, and u peal of live bells weighing "7cvt. The new clock was made by Messrs. \V. Litllejohn and Son, in their Welling ton factorv. who nl=o made llu> old Timnrn clock snine 3a years ago.
