MID-WEEK MEN AT MIRAMAR. The Central llarrers decidcd their firit race for the season at Miraniar yesterday. The event was primarily for those who had never won a race, but all club members were allowed to start, the maiden runners receiving 15 seconds oxira allowance on their handicap. The distance was U miles. The limit man, H. Martin (100:ecA, led from the start, but, at the ihree-rninrter-mile pori, had dropped back i to fourth place, Pcynton (io.-.ec.) being m ■the lead, clcselv followed by Myers (55-ec) and Smith (scr.). This order remained unchanged, save that Smith c.ispiacca Mvcrs, Povnton eventimllj- winning bv 30--OC. from Smith, who was Msec, ahead of Mvers. Smith put up the fastest time, M. Foyuton the second fastest, but the distance (being 'well over the mile and a Inlf) accounts for/the comparatively slowtime. H. Martin, a new member, ran well, finishing fifth—a good performance for his second run. D. Kutledgo, last year's championship runner-up, retired from the race at the mile post owing to cramp.
