PROGRESSIVE SOCIETY.
FORMED IN SOUTH WELLINGTON. A public meeting was held in the Newtown S'tate School last, evening with the object of terming a society lo promote tho interests of the Newtown, h'ilbirnie. Berhampore, and Melrose districts. there were about forty persons present. _ Tim following officers were appointed pvo tcin.: —Mr. J. Castle, chairman; Mr. L\ J. Caterer, secretary; Mr. A. Mr. Castle was appointed convener, and Mr. Cntcier seciet"Tlis committee was instructed to draw up' articles of .association a.'id rules tor the conduct of the society, and -to arrange for tho nest meeting, at winch officers will !>? elected.
