UNION'S ANNUAL MEETING. Tho annual meeting of tho Richmond .Kindergarten Union was held last night. Tho Mayoress (Mrs. J. P. Luke) presided, and thcro were some 30 members, mostly ladies, present. Miss M. Richmond presented the annual report, which, |sho said, wasj on tho whole, of a satisfactory nature. The permanent charge which had to bo mot now for salaries, rent, and charing was .£639 is. Tho council suggested that the Government be asked to make (heir subsidy on a proportion of the roll number, rather than on the attendance, which was so apt to fluctuate on account of bad weather J or epidemics. She made an eloquent appeal for assistance in the kindergarten work, and remarked that ussistanco could come only if interest wcro stimulated. Thoso who know the schools might interest others by taking tliem to see any of the schools. The very greatest economy was cxeroised in administering the funds, but about had to be collected every year. It had always boon collectcd, but a lot of it had been obtained by entertainments of ouo sort and another, which entailed very hard work on those organising them. It would Iw a very great relief if there were a body of subscribers who would relieve the council of this work. To bo dependent for income on the pleasure of other people was surely not a very dignified position for the society to be in. Now the society had ,£ll3 in tho bank, and that was all it liad in tho world. During the year more than .-I*2oo would have to be obtained. Mr. Martin Chapman moved the adoption of tho report and balance-sheet. The fact that there was a small surplus for tho year, he said, was one for congratulation. showing, as it did, that tho management of the kindergartens had been prudent. He had no dntibl, however, that Miss Richmond could easily expend ten fimes (lie amount of money if it were available. . Mrs. Winder seconded (he motion, which wos carried unanimously.
