UNION COMPANY'S LATEST. The new steamer Willochra, 7700 tons, recently chartered by the Union Company to relieve the Warrimoo in the Melbourne' Cook Strait-Sydney &crvice, will make her first appearance at Wellington to-morrow morning. Sho is en route from southern porta to Sydney, and is scheduled to ieavu lor the New South Wales port at 5 n.m. The Willochra is one of three largo passenger steamers recently built by Messrs. William Bcardmoro and Co., 9f Dalmuir, Scotland; for the Adelaide Company. She is a vessel of 77C6 tons cross register, 410 ft. in length, G6£ft. beam, and 37ft. depth (moulded to upper deck). She is, without question, one of the most convenient; wellequipped and comfortable ships that have ever entered a New Zealand port, ller equipment from bridge to stokehold la urt to-date iu fcvery particular, and the appointments arc splendid. The saloon cabins arc all on the- upper deck, together with tlio social hall. Tho dining salooni* (both second and first), are immediately below, with the galley, pantry, aud other culinary equipment between tho two, arranged in such a-manner that there ja a minimum of trouble iu dealing with the work of getting the dishes to tho tables, and tho certainty that every passenger will receive his order hot. The general arrangement of the cabins and their furnishings is iu every way excellent, tho provision mado in the ease of the second class pas-Eongera beinc in particular a subject of favourable remark among the visitors. In this connection it may bo said that there is provision whereby theso cabins may all be turned at short notice into first-class compartment*. An unusual and particularly good feature is that in all Die cab'lna on tho outside of tho. ship nono of tho portholes open directly into tho compartment, a spacc of about 18 inches separating them' from the straight wall of tho rooms. The first-class cabins, not unduly luxurious, are of a type that must appeal strongly to regular traveller*, and there is a complete absence of the. smelU so objectionable on many new boats; Indeed, throughout tlio whole'of the two decks, were it not for t)\e actual kuowledge of the visitor, there is nothing in that regard to give the least hint that one is aboard ship.

The two sots of quadruple-expansion engine?, constructed by tlio shipbuilder?, take steam from six Babcock and'Wilcox typo of water tubo boilers, and give the vessel a *pced of 15 knots on service. On her trial trip, which took plaee on November 7. 1912, a mean speed' of 16 knots was attained The Willochra arrived at Sydney from tlio Clyde on April 4. Tier stater ships, the Warilda and Wandilla, havo been running in the Australian and interState service for some weck6, and are becoming favourite vessels with the traveltins* public.' ' *
