Thcro has been a recurrence of the burglary boom lately, and frequent daring robberies have occurred in tho city and suburbs.
Mr: Overton was awakened by tho burglar 'in his bedroom. He grappled with him, and a fierce fight ensued. Tho intruded fired his revolver, wounding Overton in the neck. In spite of the wound. Overton continued to struggle with' Ms assailant, and the burglar again fired, inflicting a wound in the stomach. Detaining his Tiold on tho desperado, Overton was dragged into the passage, when • the burglar shook himself free, and escaped with . JB2O worth of jewellery. ..
• At Rose Bay earlier in tho night an armed masked man terrorised and locked up Alderman Kelly's servants, and secured, a quantity of silverware. At Clyde two masked men stuck up the caretaker, of 'the Football Association Grounds, and appropriated all the cash in the premises. At Annandale a burglar visited the home of a.railway employee when tho latter was absent at work, and. forced the wife at the .point of the revolver to aci company him from room to room while ho 1.. , ,
The only reward the intruder got was the husband's supper, which was ready on the'table, and which he ate. , In all the. cases the burglars escaped capture.'
