BOWLS.

CARNIVAL PAIRS TOURNAMENT. . FREAKISH WEATHER. - Interest in bowls on Saturday centred in tho Wellington Bowling Centre's carnival pairs tournament, arranged to assist tlio Citizens' Carnival Fund for tho improvement, of the city reserves. There were 71 pairs entered, and play was conducted on the Wellington, Victoria, Newtown, ICelburne, Karori, Hutt, and Potono greens, in weather which was distinctly freakish in character. In the morning the weather was bright and warm, with a fairly high northerly wind. Early in tho afternoon tho wind dropped, and at about 4 o'clock a mild southerly "buster cawo rolling across the Strait, aitd. turned the blue skies to a lead-coloured pall, which, at onco made tho conditions, as far as light was concerned, the reverse of helpful, and a slight shower of ram caused a scuttlo for the pavilion at one stage. It held off, however, sufficiently to enable the full four rounds (16-head gamed) programmed to be completed. Instead of playing only two gam«s today, as was intended, it has been decided to play three games. Play in the finals will commence on the Wellington Club s green at 9 a.m. to-morrow. Section ties will rank as section-winners in the draw for the final games. Tho arrangements iu connection with the tournament are in the capable hands of Mr. J. J.
