REVOLTING AFFAIR.
.FATAL BOAKDINGHOTTSE AFFEAY. (By Telegra.pl!.—Press Association.) Auckland, March 22. A coroner's inquest concerning the death, of, George Henry Hill was lield today. • Deceased's widow stated ; that, her lniu band was about fifty wars of-age. and tlio family consisted of two,young boys. James Evans had boarded. with tliemolf and on. Evans accosted lior in the street and' used bad language. She informed her husband, and he accompanied 'her and her two children to a friend's residence. Evans chased them, and again insulted witness and wanted to fight her husband. She' gave Evans £2, which ho had deposited with her for safe keeping, * and early next morning she gave him i! 5 which lie had given her to send to Sydney on his behalf; also his watch, chain, and a ring. Sho then told Evans that he could not remain as a boarder. Evans left, but returned later, and used offensive languago. Witness left the house to got uolico assistance, and on returning -she found her husband and Evans in ' the backyard, the former lying across a chopping block: Sho saw Evans kick him. Her husband was black in tho face, umi could not stand. Evans'asked if she wanted her face smashed, too, and struck her on tho face. A constuble slie gave Evans in custody, and lie- husband was removed to hospital. Evans opposed sober enough to know what lie was doing. • In a statement to the police, Evans said he and Hill were both injured by falling over somo wood in the yard. Tho jury found that Hill's death »» caused by a blow from .Tames Evans. Tho latter, who was already in custody, was remanded to tho gaol.
