Now that the men of the pleasant sensido plaoo have acquired a Ijowliiiff Rroen, (heir wives, sisters, cousins, and aunts are determined to equip themselves with q croquet lawn. The laud is there—in. the rough—but the company which promoted the grounds havo'exhausted their funds in laying down what promises to bp an excellent bowling green, and the feminine portion of the population have been thrown upon their oiyn resources for tho collecting of money sufficient to make a proper croquet"lawn. "Women's wit will find a way" has been said, and it is true in this instance. Whilst the city , folk are revcllihg in a Teserve-beautifying carnival at Easter, the Seatoun ladies are following suit vby holding a little carnival of their pwia on Easter Monday, tho proceeds of which are to bo devoted to tho croquet' lawn fund. Not content with this they are to hold a series of entertainments during the winter for the same purpose. •

Dr. Anson and Mrs. Anson arrived in. Wellington ,on Monday by the Main Trunk express from Martou. Mr. and Mrs. Von Haast intend spending Easter in' "Wanganui. Miss Mowbray and Mrs. Mowbray and her two daughters were to leave Auckland yesterday for Wellington, where they join their steamer for England. Mrs. Tweed leaves Wellington shortly on a visit to England, and has been tho guest of honour at many farewell entertainments. Mrs. and Miss Ewart returned to Mastorton yesterday from a brief visit to Wellington. ! Miss E, B. Baughan left for Christ church last evening after a very brief ■visit to Wellington. Mrs. Putnam and Miss Barbara Putnam return to Wellington to-day from a six weeks' visit to Sydney. 1 Tho Mayor, Mr. M'Larcn, opens the All Nations' Carnival and Fancy Fair in the hajl in Green Street (Wellington South), on Saturday evening, March 22.
