Maxwell, second night porter at the United Service 'Hotel, "narrowly, escaped very.serious injury yesterday morniiig. After coming off duty at 8 a.m. ho went on tho roof in chase of a-kitten, in the course of which he stepped on a glass skylight, and fell a distance of about twelve feet on to this landing on the top door. Ho sustained injuries to his.head and back, and also cuts'necessitating, his removal to the hospital. Fortunately lie did not step on to the middle of tho skylight, | otherwise ho would have probably fallen. to the ..landing, on. the'first floor.". Tho injured man, who is 21 years of age, and was previously employed in a Duncdin hotel, ib progressing satisfactorily.. GUISEPPE PISANI'S DEATH. An inquest will be held to-day concerning the death of Giiisoppe Pisani, who was' knocked down in Willis Street on Friday, evening by a motor-car and died in the public hospital at 10 o'clock the same night, . ''■..;■ . Shock, following concussion of tho brain, is reported to have caused death. Pisani was a musician and was frequently seoii playing his harp on the harbour ferries. : HEART FAILURE. Dr. M'Arthur, S.M., held on inquest on Friday concerning the death of Isaac Schneideman, of 58 Central Terrace! Kclburne, who had died rather suddenly, Dr. Rawson deposed that deceased died of heart failure, and the verdict was in accordance with this testimony-. : . • | "Remember you may meet with an accident any day.
