FULL NOTES FROM ELLERSLIE. GALLOPS & TIMES. AND GENERAL HAPPENINGS. (By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) Auckland, December 22. The "Star's" sporting writer in Saturday's issue has the following notes on the track happenings and work at Ellcrsiie:—
The few showers that fell on Friday evening made tho conditions perfect for training operations on Saturday morning, and Hie work on the whole was of a decidedly interesting character. The course proper outside the trestles, the sand, middle grass, and tan were all open, the work registered on the.various tracks being as follows:— On the Course Proper, Jack Delaval was the first to go fast on the course proper, skipping over six furlongs in lmm. 20 d-osec, and finishing well within himself. The Cup horse Masterpiece, .in company with Heathcrbrae, jumped olf at the milo and a quarter post. Brown. Owl joined in at the soven-furlong post, and the pace was cracked on, H'ealherbrao dropping out after a mile had been covered. The other pair finished up the journey, Masterpiece going strongly at tho end. The pace was on all the way, the furlong taking Hsec, throe furlongs' 43sec, four furlongs. 55 2-ssec, five furlongs lmin. 8 l-sssc., six furongs lmin. 23 3-ssec., seven furlongs lmin. 3(i 2-ssec, the first round 2min. ■! 2-ssec, and the mile and a quarter 2miu. 18 2-osec. Tangiwai (alone) moved freely over half a liozen furlongs in lmin. 20sec. The two-year-old Nightwatch was associated with' Winning Way over a similar distance, which he covered in lmin. 19 2-ssec, Winning Way taking a second longer. Glenfinnan (alone) ran down five furlongs from the new post in lmin. '7sec. Devastation was going much easier than Advocate at the end of six furlongs, run in lmin. 21 i-ssec. A similar tssfc was allotted Moirbray, Martel, and Peg, the. trio finishing in that order at intervals of about' a length in lmin. 22 4-ssec. llonoline and Tripoli were companions in a.'five-furlong sprint, which they covered in lmin. 7 3-ssec, the former pleasing most.
Scorch,, with the assistance of Cloudy Dawn OTer the last six furlongs, galloped seven furlongs in Imin. 33sec,. the last six furlongs taking Imin. 20sec. The pair. finished together. The Cup candidates, Santa Eosa (H. Watson) and Domino (O'Shca) trotted round to the mile and a quarter post, and then jumped off together. Watchchain (Conquest) joined in at the mile post, and he and Santa Eosa raced away together twjor three lengths in front of Domino. The pair clapped on .the pace, and, when tho post was reached, Santa Eosa had a length the better of Watchchain, with Domino some lengths away. The pace set was very solid, and there was no loafing on tho road, the gallop being: one of the best recorded at Ellerslie. Tho first furlong took 14 1-osec, three furlongs 41 '4-ssec., four furlongs 54 l-ssec, six furlongs lmiu. 20 3-ssec, seven fnrlonge Imin. 33 Msec, once round 2min. 1 3-ssec., and the mile and a quarter 2min. 15 4-ssec. Domino took 2min. 17sec. Our King hopped off at the new fivefnrlong post, and ran to the winning post in Imin. 4sec. :. Turbine (alone), starting from the old post, ran the same journey in Imin. 8 l-ssec.
Another brace of Cup horses—La Eeina (Perciv.al) and Vice-Admiral (an apprentice)—started oil at the mile and a quarter post, and, after raci.es in company for about half a milf, La. Eeina went on, and eventually teat..her. companion by six seconds'." It' transpired , afterwards that Vice-Admiral's rider had lost one of his stirrup irons. La Reina's display, was a pleasing one, the little mare running the distances as follow furlong 14 l-ssec, thrje furlongs 42sec, four furlongs 55sec, five furlongs Imin. 7 3-s£ec, six furlongs lmiii. 22 4-ssec, seven furlongs Imin. 36sec, once round 2min. 3 l-osec, mile and a quarter 2min. 17sec. Vice-Admiral's time was 2min. 23sec.
Don Quex covered a round without beins unduly exerted in 2min. 21 2-ssec. The two-year-olds, Roltano and Lady Alicia, finished together at the end of- five furlongs in lmin. 7sec. ■ i There was nothing between Paoli and Marconi at the finish of a similar distance frona tho new post in.lmin. 7 2-ssec. Phosphorus, alone, sprinted five furlongs in lmin. 9 l-ssec. Caher Devon pleased better than Our Queen over six furlongs, run in lmin. 21 4-s;ec. ■ • Almeida, Antiphbne, Duma, Blue Eose, and Virtue jumped off in. straggling order at the six-furlongs post. Almeida, who got the best of the start, finished in front in. lmin.' 20 3-ssec., with Antiphone, who took the. same time from when he got away, second, and the others finishing in the order nam«d. Labour Day end Monorail were companions over a round, tho former finishing in front, the distances being run as follow:—Two furlongs, 27 3-ssec.; three furlongs, 40sec.;. four furlongs,. 53sec.; five furlongs, lmin. 7 l-ssec.; six furlongs, lmin. 20 1-osec.; once round, 2min. 2.2-5 sec. Monorail took 2min. 3sec. ■ Potoa showed more pace than Taketnmu over six furlongs, run in lmin. 19 4-ssec. Golden Loop was going easily alongside Silyerlyte at tlie end of a round, run in 2min. C. 4-ssec. Sso. Pink had more to say than Vestal at the- end of a mile, run in lmin. 51sec. The last of the Cup horses to work were Goldfinder (Wliittaker) and Midnight Sun (Wilson) being companions over a round, neither being fully extended. The two.furlongs took 29sec., three furlongs 42sec., four furlongs 55 3-ssec., five furlongs lmin. llsec, six furlongs lmin. 25sec, once round 2min. 7 4-ssec. The Onehunga pair, First Wairiki and Wairiki Eose, galloped seven furlongs in lmin. 35sec, the former l>eating his companion by a dozen lengths. After breakfast the Celt galloped dx furlongs alone in lmin. 20 2-osec: Miss Winsome galloped a mile in lmin. 49 l-ssec, the last eeven furlongs taking lmin. 2-1 l-ssec. .Seaman, alone, traversed tho same ground, the seven furlongs taking lmin. 36 l-ssec, - . Manurewa. and Nelius were companions over a round, Lloyds joining in at the five-furlong post,, and easily finishing in front. Manurewa beat Nelius in 2min. 7 l-sseo. Apellon, accompanied by Malrura over the last five furlongs, galloped six furlongs in lmin. 19sec. Monocle and the two-year-old, Unity, were spurted four furlongs, which they traversed in 54-2-ssec. , Vic had Decorate as a companion over five furlongs from the new post, the distance faking lmin. G l-ssec. Vic finished in front. Loloma covered four furlonge in 51 4-5 sec., and a lot of others also worked. Work on the Tan. Eoyal Soult cantered a couple of rounds on the tan, walking away apparently sound. Antoinette, Tact,, Soultikoff, Bon Ton, Bon Eeve, Los Angelos, Oxenhope, and Culprit <iid steady pacing. Bleriot and Waiorewa, with the assistance of Lady Gladstone over the last five,, galloped six furlongs in lmin. 23 l-ssec. Bleriot had Waiorewa in trouble at the finish. Kakama cantered round, spurting home down the straight. Bobrikoff (A. Trioklebauk) cantered a round, and then strode over a round in lmin. 55sec. Merry Hoe galloped six furlongs, the last five taking lmin. Bscc. •S?dition and Wee O\ga galloped, running the homo six furlongs in lmin. 21 1-asec. Tho former finished in front. Ventura and .Tnson did easy pacing. . Koran covered a couple of rounds at a strong half-pace. After breakfast, Marshal M'Donald covered six furlongs, the last fivo in lmin. lljcc. Other General Notes, J. Gcorgo arrived at headquarters yesterday with Crown Pearl. The light-weight horseman, H. Curran, is expected to arrive from Sydney to-mor-row (Sunday). During the trip from Wellington, Gipsy Belle contracted a bad cold, and it was deemed advisablo to take her back homo, and H. Tolford left on the- return joui-

Ryau, ivlio has not missed an Auckland Cup since he arrived in the Dominion some years ago, will this year be Tiding at the Thames meeting, in preference to EUerslie. Work on the Sand. Light Blue was the first to use the sand, running the last six of seven furlongs in lmin. 22 2-ssoc. Jolie Fille galloped seven furlongs, Prince Merriwee assisting over the last five, which were run in lmin. 5 2-ssec.
