THE HOLIDAY RUSH BEGUN. (By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) Wanganui, December 22. Tho weather last evening: was very pleas* ant, and large crowds paraded the streets. Business people report that trade w«3 very brisk. Large numbers of people have left for various places on holiday, but many visitors are arriving, and Wanganni promises to bo moro lively thnn usual this Christmas. The Axemen's Carnival, to be held on Monday, December 80, is bringing many bushinen into town. Settles in the back-blocks in many instances took advantage of the -recent dry spell and got in good "burns." Last week's rain delayed moro burning, but with favourable weather a very large area of bush will be burned in the Wanganui hinterland. It is expected that there will be an exceptionally strong demand for seed in this district during the next few weeks. Shearing operations in the district are now fast drawing to o close for Ihe season. In the hush districts the sheep have shorn fairly heavy fleeces.
