KAIWARRA SCHOOL
"WOEKING XJNDEE DISCOMFORT. • At a recent meeting of the Education Board, a committee was set up to inquire into the. conditions under which the State .School at Kaiwarra is conducted. It reported as follows:— "•The committee appointed to report on the', difficulties of 'conducting; the school at Kaiwarra ithoroughly: realise the great discomfort'.under whici'the school work is being conducted- owing to the establishment- of .■!" a foundry, and other iron works in tho immediate vicinity, 'and/ that-.;this : -'discomfort -will, certainly increase. For'the greater part of the day, when the works are iii full swing, the noise is such as to render the conduct of the school an absolute impossibility. Tho roll of the school has already fallen, and the noise of the works will certainly render Kaiwarra a less desirable residential suburb than formerly'. There is, no other site available which will obviato the drawbacks.of the present school, and your committee is of opinion that the ultimate solution of the difficulty will be the removal of the children to Thorndon, which provides ample accommoda-tion'-for the .60 children now attending ; the Kaiwarra school." After consideration, it was agreed to leave the fate of tho Kaiwarra school to a conference to be held between the members for the Hutt and Horowhenua districts (Messrs. Lee.and Kebbell) and the members of the Kaiwarra School Committee.
