A REMARKABLE AVERAGE. Stevenson followed up his defeat of Cook by another great week's billiards against young Fnikmcr (says an exchange). The youth was in receipt of 2250 in GOOO. but so well did tho ex-cham-pion strike > his ball that when the end came tho dobutant had only added IG4G to tho concession. That performance doss not mako out the nowcomor as Very highclass certainly; but when it is borne in mind that Stovonson put up tho remarkable average of 78 for tho' whole of tho game, Falkiner's seemingly poor showing on _ figures is accounted for in a way. This avorago is said to have only been eclipsed on two occasions undor prosont rules—George Gray, of courso, being excepted—Stevenson himself being tho maker. Stovonson was doing so well after his South African trip that it seemed rather a pity that ho was not staying longer than a month in England, prior to joining Gray in Egypt. While in such form no would have mado somo of his old opponents appear romarkably cheap.
