FEILDING.

Amongst the school functions which tho chairman of tho WanganuL Kducation Board has promised to attend this month aro the annual ceremonies at the Palmerston High School, Wanganui Technical College, Wanganui Girls' College, Marton Technical College, Foxton School, Bunnythorpe School, and Feilding District High School. The list is not quite complete, but a fair beginning is outlined, even for Mr. Fred Pirani.

On Saturday members of tho teachers' class at the Feilding Technical School presented a pair of silver vasos to the woodwork instructor, Mr. Ralph Anker. Tho Hev. Professor Hewitson, of Knox College, Dunedin, gave an address in St. Paul's Church yesterday evening on "A Trip Across India." There w r as a largo attendance.

The Feilding Orange Lodge has elected tho following officers for tho forthcoming .term:—W.M., Bro. Rev. A. B. Chapnell; D.M.; Bro. W. J. Allen; Sec, Bro.' E. Burn*; S.D., S.D., Bro. E. P. Smith.

This week a consignment of ten Komney rams, ten Lincoln rams, and two Lincoln owes will be sent (o Wellington' from Feilding, to bn shipped to Uruguay, South America, on December 21. Thirtytwo Romuey rams will be shipped to, the same country with the Hereford bull Crusader, which has been purchased by the Uruguayan Government. The Lincolns are from tho stud.of Mr. A. Bourne, of Waverley, and the Romrieys and the bull from Mr. E. Short's stud farm.

At Monday night's meeting of tlio Cb amber of Commerce-Mr. I). Neal (president) brought up the matter- of the increased fire insurance rales. His. own rates had been increased from lis. 3d. to 13s. Gd., less 10 per cent. The matter was generally discussed, and Mr. Brainwell suggested that information should be obtained as to the position which obtained in other towns, similarly situated to Feilding, for the purpose of making comparison. Mr. Spence thought that, with its large brick premises, the splendid water supply, and the fire-fighting appliances here, Feilding should be rated on the lowest scale. The secretary (Mr. Ongley) undertook to get the iiuormation requested.
