Mts. Hair, of Severn Street, Island Bay, was somewliat burned about the arm and side yesterday morning through a lamp capsizing and setting fire to her clothes. The lateness of the strawberry season this,year has robbed growers of two-thirds of their crops (writes our Auckland correspondent), for generally the berries como in during October, while in no case is there a market worthy of consideration after January. Christmas, indeed, marks the end of the season for average growers, no matter whether the season be early or late. Strawberries now coming forward are in fair supply, the number of cases sent to Wellington last week being slightly greater than usual. Locally the supply is by no means a large one in relation to the demand. Prices realised recently' on the local wholesale market run from Bd. to 10|d., while retail prices in Auckland vary from 10d. to Is. 3d. per box. Given a few days of hot, dry weather, the supply would materially'increase, though it is doubtful whether with the near advent of Christmas the increased supply would greatly influence prices.
