Tho fortnightly meeting of. the. Peton#. Borough Council was held last evening. There were'present the Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan) a,ud., Councillors Wakeham, Brockelbinkj' Cox, Lodder, Piper, List. . S. Nicholls made application for dairy license. The inspector reported'eeitarn • minor improvements to premises.- .License.;'. ', issued and applicant asKed, to give effect ' to inspector's', recommendation, 'u . <• i - . i-. The secretary of tho .Taita .Cemetery. ■ Board thanked the council for tho services , rendered by the borough,engineer .in,con- , nection with the laying off of;the; newroad at the Cemetery.—Deceived.- .- • . ■■■ Mr. T. M. Wilford acknowledged ..tha receipt of the council's letter regarding, sale of ooal by municipalities, and advised that lie will give, the matter his best attention when Parliament next meets.— . Received. . • >, Major Bavan wrote pointing out tho value of the - Navals' cutters in case of accidents on the harbour, and asked for a small annual subsidy • towards-their upkeep. Resolved that the matter be ..held ... over until the next council nieeUng. _ Messrs. Seaton, Sladden and Pavitt . asked that as Mr. Percy had failed in v negotiations with the trustees of. late Mr. Udy, ho be' allowed to tako a dram through tho gasworks property,. instead' of 'carrying same to Udy Street, in a-di-rect lino with, Percy's 'street. ' Rfsulvcd, that Mr. Pefcy informed that the . . council agrees to .the.drain-going through tha gasworks property, provided that tho drain is kept within six feet of the boundary fence, and that Mr. Percy shall extend tho council's drain from the present manhole,' provide the necessary extra manhole, and pay tho cost of the necessaryagreement for the uso of tho oouncils land. ' • The general manager of tho New Zealand Railways wroto stating that by - direction of the Minister that the alteraWon to the running of the train leaving',., Petone at 7.19 p.m. was made in order to : allow tho Woodvillo train, to arrivo ea.rlier and givo through passengers better time to catch the ferry steamer for Lyttolton.'
