Patrick Ring, who pleaded not guilty, was fined ,£1 with costs £2 2s. on a charge of/'his having cruelly ill-treated a horse—it was. alleged, among other things, that Ring had beaten the animal over the head with a'stick. ' ' . BY-LAW CASES. , - For having allowed stock to zander at large, Alfred Bradley was fined 55., with , costs 75.; George Bradley, 55., with costs 75.; Norman' Ellice, 55,, with costs 75.; Thomas. Hitchbox, 10s., with costs 75.;Nora'By an, 55., with costs 75.; Victor Russo, 55., with costs 75.; and 'William Brown was ordered to pay costs, 7s. A fine of 10s„ with costs 75., was entered against Walter Miles for hawking without a license. " PROHIBITED. BAIT. X "'James Hansby was fined £2 for having used a.prohibited bait when trout fishing at Kaiwarra. He stated to the Court that he was quite new to the country. ' THE DEFENCE ACT.
