:« — FURTHER AWARDS. iHIEF STOCK-JUDGING FIXED FOR TO-DAY. SOME GENERAL NOTES. (By Telegraph.—Speoial Reporter.) Palmerston North, October 30. Threatening weather ruled lor the opening of tlm Manuwatu A. and I'. Associa-. tion's show 10-day, but nothing more serious than a drizzle fell, and this was not enough to keep visitors away. There is a fair amount cf stock on the ground, but tho [tens will not be full until tomorrow morning l , when the lunin judging begins. The only stock judged to-day was tho pig section, but practically the whole of tho side lines were disposed of. Spectators had plenty to interest them in the ring competitions. The stock judging will ccmmencs in earrest to-inorrow, When the horses, sheep, and cattle will come under the eyes of tho judges. The. horses number 280, including B,'l draughts. There is a fairly strong showing of stallions and ponies, saddle anil harness horses also make a big display. The draught breeders represented include two South Island studs, Thompson and Co. of "North Ttiierl, anil J. Dollar, of Scddon. Messrs. E. Short, J. "W. Harding, Hugh Campbell, and Arch, and Douglas M'Lcan are also represented.

The strongest cattle section'is the Holsteins, tho best-known breeders of this ?tock hsiviiisj entered enthusiastically into the competition and placed no fewer than D 2 entries. Jcrwys itlsc. are well represented, but arc not nearly as strong numerically as the black and whites. Shorthorns and Herefords make good competition, fresh stock in these classes coming to hand from the AVaikqto. Ayrshire* nlso make a good showing. The "Wereroa State Farm is exhibiting some of its Holstein and Shorthorn stock, and is nlso competing , in some of the classes,

The Komneys hold pride of place ifi the sheep classes, and special interest is attached to the class because of the competition for the Short One Hundred Guinea Cup, in\which Mr. Short, 'who hgs not been showing his liomneys for some time past, is again competing against Mr. W. Perry, ivho lias carried off the trophy for two years in succession, and only requires to win the cup this year to have absolute possession. All-through this section there is strong competition. The Down breeds are well represented, but the English Leicesters all stand in Mr. S. B. Lancaster's name. Farmers' classes and fat sheep are not much in evidence. There is a more' representative showing of pigs than last year, but there is still room for Improvement in this class. t>Dgs, as stated before, are a feature of the show, being 100 per cent, higher than last year. There is an imposing display of machinery, motor-cars, and vehicles, and the exhibition hall is' filled with stalls. Additional prizes are as under:—
