Tho fire has got a fresh hold at the 700 foot level, and is spreading. A hehnetcd party mado another utlvmpt to reach tho bodies of tho entombed men, but were driven back. No more attempts will bo mado until the situation has improved. • It is understood tho management ' has decided to Hood tho mine to above the 700 feet level. It will take threo weeks to do this, and recovery of the bodies will have to be postponed indefinitely. VICTORIAN GRANT TOR RELIEF. Melbourne, October 22. Tho State Government has given JMOO to the Lyell Rslief Fund. GOVERNMENT GRANTS. . (Ree. October 23, 1.5 a.m.) . Sydney, October 22. The Commonwealth Government has voted .£2500 towards the relief of the sufferers from the Mount Lyell mining disaster. The New South Wales Government has also voted ,£IOOO towards the relief funds.
